... The meandering path that culminated in this project has led me through explorations of many musical genres. You'll find hints of them throughout.

The tracks for this album wrote themselves as they were being played. Occasionally I had some vague notion of a starting idea, but mostly I began with an empty slate, letting the ideas emerge of their own accord. Emerge they did, often in surprising ways, leading the music in directions I could not have anticipated in advance.

These moments of surprise brought home to me what is perhaps the essence of improvisation: to embrace every note played as if it was exactly what was meant to be. I find it difficult to articulate how this process works. What I can offer is that it involves cultivating an attitude of surrender and acceptance in playing. At its best, the experience is one of simple joy-- the joy of discovery. I am delighted to be able to share this joy with you now.
